Houston Marathon 2012

Last Sunday, Yaya and Papi picked up the girls and I at 6:00 am to head to Houston to watch Uncle Doc run the Houston Marathon. We stopped at Speedy Stop to pick up breakfast tacos then headed to Houston. Our first stop was mile 10 of the marathon. We arrived just as the male leaders were running through. They were sprinting. It was amazing how fast their legs are! This was exciting for me, because it was the first time I had been a spectator at a marathon/half-marathon. The girls were such troopers. They had their signs ready to see Uncle Doc.
Here comes Uncle Doc (in the white shirt).

We stayed at mile ten and got to see Charles run past. Then we were ready to cheer on Father Gary (in the gray shirt behind the guy with black sunglasses).

After mile ten, we headed to the finish line to meet up with Aunt Nikki.

Here comes Uncle Doc towards the finish line. He is right behind the flag in the white shirt. He did so awesome and achieved a personal record, finishing the marathon in 3:26.

We stayed to watch for a while. We were able to see Charles, Father Gary and Susan finish. All the excitement wore Caroline out. We were able to enjoy being spectators while she got a nap in.

Juliann learned how to climb trees with the help of Aunt Nikki!

It was such a wonderful experience. I think I am going to try to see if I get the chance to run next year. After the marathon, we headed to Yaya and Papi's to enjoy some yummy chicken fried steak and spend some more time with Uncle Doc and Aunt Nikki.

We are so proud of Uncle Doc!

New Year's Eve

We spent New Year's weekend with some friends at the hotel in Provident City. We had a great time. A special thank you to Meme, Papa, Yaya, and Papi who watched the girls so we could get away!! Friday night we just hung out and watched the beautiful colors that the fire was putting off.
Saturday, the guys and a few girls shoot skeet.

Saturday evening, we said a blessing and ate a wonderful meal.

We celebrated William and Jill's birthdays.

Then we counted down to the New Year.

Instead of a champagne toast, everyone sprayed their champagne bottles

And of course, we had to finish off the night with mexican hot dogs.

I Did It!

I received a sewing machine last year for Christmas from Jeff. During the summer I pulled it out of the box, thinking I was going to try it out, but I never did. It just sat out of the box, collecting dust. Before Christmas, Jeff was threatening to take it back or sell it. Well, after Christmas, I DID IT... I finally used my sewing machine. I used the manual to learn how to thread the bobbin and work the machine. My first product was a camera strap. I looked up on the internet how to make it. Then I went the The Quilt Shop in town and they helped me pick out some fabric. That place is amazing and has such a big selection. Here are the camera strap covers I have made so far... Here is a close up of mine, it was on my camera, so it was hard to take a picture.
I even mended some holes in a couple of shirts and sewed one of the girls dress up costumes back together. I hope I have time to continue to sew and come up with some new projects.

Gun Safety

Juliann couldn't wait to shoot the new bb gun. Her Daddy took her in the back yard and taught her about gun safety, before she could shoot the gun. He taught her about the safety button and how to hold the gun. She was a very good and patient listener.

Then he showed her how to shoot the gun.

I am a bad Mommy, because I went inside to take finish making some food and I didn't get any of Juliann shooting her gun for the first time :(
