Texas Independence Relay 2014 - Part 1

The last weekend in March, we loaded up the Excursion and traveled to Gonzales to take part in the pre-party events.  The next morning, we awoke early to begin our 200 mile journey from Gonzales to San Jacinto.  This year we had two new members, Jennifer and Ronnie Henke.  Ronnie really stepped up last minute when we determined that Vicente probably wasn't going to make it in from Mexico like we had anticipated.

Our start time was 7:40.  We ran the first mile together, then I continued on running the first leg of the relay.

Shelly had to break for a sip of champagne mid-run

The bluebonnets were beautiful along the way

Jennifer's turn!  She kicked butt, running a 8:30 minute mile.
